Thieves are using Central Locking signal jamming to access your car

January 10, 2018

With access to a transmitter, which are cheap to purchase, thieves are able to jam the signal of your keys locking transmitter. This growing feature of vehicle crime has a range of 75m and allows thieves to block locking signals, leaving your vehicle unknowingly unlocked with valuables left vulnerable.

Because there are no signs of a break in and no evidence, most insurers will not pay out as many exclude cover if the vehicle is left unlocked and unattended. The only way to prove that key jamming has been used is to catch the perpetrator red-handed. Thames Valley Police are currently investigating numerous cases of thefts from lorries, all of which took place in service stations on the M4.

This new method of vehicle theft is on the police radar, but methods can be taken by car owners to minimize their own risk such as double checking the car has been locked after using remote locking.

Please remember to be vigilant…
